Showers in the distance…
Standing in sunshine,
watching showers in the distance,
and wondering:
Are they coming, going, or just passing by?
Council elections 2019 – Guildford
Total: 48 seats
Lib Dems 17 (+7)
R4GV 15 (+15)
Conservatives 9 (-25)
GGG 4 (+1)
Labour 2 (+1)
Greens 1 (+1)
Quick notes:
Conservatives have governed the Guildford borough council since 1999. Today they lost 25 seats – going from 34 out of 48 seats, to just 9 seats. All of these remaining 9 were in armed forces heavy villages around Ash and Normandy.
They lost remain voters in the town by becoming the party of Brexit. And they lost Brexit voters in the villages by dismissing the widespread opposition to the local development plan, and cynically passing it just a week before the election.
(The plan allows three separate developments in the green belt for a total of about 4000 new homes. It’s massively unpopular for a variety of reasons – green belt love, house price NIMBYism, bad traffic and amenities provision…).
Labour remained immaterial, winning their token 2 seats in Stoke.
Lib Dems gained much of the Remain vote in the urban areas in and around town – gaining 7 seats to become the largest party with 17 seats.
Two groups of local/independent parties – Guildford Greenbelt Group and Residents for Guildford and Villages – gained most of the previously conservative votes in the villages.
Both these parties were formed in opposition to large scale house building plans in the green belt. The Brexit voting conservative voters in the villages are angry about the developments, and punished the Tories for their arrogance.
I wonder if R4GV+GGG will now be brave enough to push for a recall of the much hated local development plan.
#ILoveSpring
Spring is definitely* my favourite season in the UK. Lots of colour, lots of freshness, lots of new lives (leaves, rabbits, dear), and the trails have not yet been taken over by nettles and thorns.

Target for 2019 – Rank within top 50 at Guildford Parkrun
My PB at Guildford Parkrun is 23:12, and my best ranking is 77.
My current time at Guildford Parkrun is 25 mins (5:00 min/km), and ranking is near 120.
To rank in the top 50, I would need to achieve a time of 22 mins or lower. This would require running at an average pace of 4:24 min/km.
Losing 3 mins will not be easy. It’s a good target – challenging but not impossible.

The first day of summer
Lazy morning in bed reading.
Long walk with boys in the Chantries woods – my favourite running space in Guildford. Can’t run, so made it a hilly walk with the boys.
Cool shower, warm shave.
A spicy naked burrito for lunch, drowned with a free Coke zero.
A pint by the river to soak the sun, reading a saucy, spunky book in public 😉
Followed it up with an ice cream from the van, enjoyed while walking by the river – through waggy dogs, playful kids, picnicking families, and a few sunning beauties.
Finally, had a lovely cortado before the ride home, and picked up a biscotti for later.
Now, back with the boy, with cuddles, and whining, belly rubs and bum scratches.
The best bit: no vomit anywhere == the grub stayed in his tummy 🙂
Oh, and back watching the French Open. (Djoko just won his match)
