Rebuilding
Today was one of those days when I woke up tired, stayed tired all day, and will probably sleep tired.
And it all happened last night.
No, it wasn’t her. It was a him. Julian, our spinning instructor.
He’s decided that winter is over, and we’re moving from base-building zone 3 rides to character-building zone 4 (and above) rides. My legs begged to differ.
If this was a road ride, I would have spent the first long interval tagging along, the second one barely hanging on, and the third seeing them ride off in the distance. Thankfully, it wasn’t. So, I was able to sit up for a couple of minutes, and then get back in the flow.
I never got into the high zone 4 that we were supposed to ride in in the 3rd interval. Barely got to 4.2 before the legs gave out. I’m far from the days when the heart used to be punching through the top end of zone 4 :(
At least I averaged 230+ watt for the non-recovery intervals.
Anyway, I ended up knackered. Completely.
Here’s to hoping that it’ll only get better from here.
30 day challenge – June 2012
Embarrassed by my performance in last weekend’s King of the Downs sportive, it’s time for some regular toning. The challenge for June is a combination of Nov 2011 and Mar 2012 challenges:
- Ride / Walk / Run / Swim at least 30 minutes every day (single stretch)
- Ride / Walk / Run everywhere. No public transportation, or cars.
I did successfully finish the November and March challenges. Let’s see how it goes this time.
Targets 2013
Just putting these out there so I can’t chicken out later (at least not easily):
- Olympic distance triathlon
- Etape du Tour
Also, though it’s not on formal target list, would love to ride the Fred Whitton sportive in Lake District.

Shame on you, LCC
Using a double negative to fool people into allowing you to mail them is one of the cheap tricks of trade for spammers and unethical websites. Not something I’d expect of a reputed cycling advocacy charity.
Shame!
P.S.: I did submit the petition. But that’s because I believe strongly in the cause. That stupid checkbox label almost put me off signing it, though.
Love. Hate. Cyclists. Drivers.
[P.S.: Even as enthusiastic a cycling supporter as me believes that to be a bit of an exaggeration :)]
