9 days to London – the no running day of this week

Didn’t run today. Instead attended the usual pilates with Brenda, and went for a swim before it.

Body was knackered when I woke up. It was knackered when I dropped R off at the station. It was knackered when I returned with the hill loop walk with the boys. It was knackered before the swim, during the swim, and after the swim. It felt ok for the first half of the pilates class. It was very knackered at the end of the class. And started knackered rest of the day.

Got just one set of stretches in, apart from the ones on pilates. Did foam roll and ice the legs though.

Meals were eggs for breakfast, chicken katsu for lunch, and subway for dinner. Bribed the head with an Oreo ice cream sandwich after dinner, so it could keep on going for another few hours.

Looking forward to end of the week now.

10 days to London – stretching, rolling, running, icing

Went for an 11 km run today. Takes the total for the week to 40k.

The left hamstring was quite tender at times through the run. Will have to take extra care of it.

Stretched twice, foam rolled once.

Wished, many times, that I could replace the foam rolling with extra running or something. It hurts!

Iced the left hamstring before sleeping.

Out.

11 days to London – stretching, running, gorging

It’s 11 days to London marathon.

Today, I stretched twice, walked the dogs twice, and ran 5 miles. That’s three consecutive days of running – 10K each on Monday and Tuesday, and 8.6K today.

Legs are feeling much better after three days of stretching regularly. Now, need to add foam rolling to stretching.

The run was primarily intervals with Fitstuff run group. Nothing really hurt on the run today, though the legs did feel empty after a few intervals. Took it easy after a while to prevent any potential injury.

Am feeling a bit of tingling and stiffness in the feet now – on the balls, arch and heel. Will massage them before sleeping.

Ate a humongous 1000+ kcal dinner – ½ each of a pizza, tiramisu, and chilli soul breads from Zizzi.

About to enter post run, post gluttony deep sleep.

Surrey Half Marathon 2018 – the route

Target time: 1:45:00
Actual time: 1:46:18
Course PB: 1:46:18

My first race on this Surrey HM course – not as fast as planned (hoped?), but better than the Wokingham half. And much, much faster than when I last ran this race :)

Snow run 2017

It snowed last night. The sticky, wet, turn-everything-white kind of snow. The right kind of snow.

So, naturally we went for an earlier run today. To get in the sight before the crowds (or the sun) spoilt it.

Here’s a few shots :)

Running like a tourist – Hartland Devon edition

Hartland-Devon run route - To the black rock beach and back
Hartland-Devon run – To the black rock beach and back

It’d been many months since the last run as a tourist. The running planned in Croatia didn’t happen – too hot, too hilly (Dubrovnik), and the beaches too beautiful (Hvar) to waste time running.

Autumn & Winter didn’t see any trips anywhere so no chance of being a tourist. And the only other trip planned in spring is to Brighton – to run the Brighton marathon. So that doesn’t count either, I guess.

So when Raghi & her friends decided to go to Devon for a holiday on a long weekend in late March, it provided a good opportunity to get some running-as-a-tourist done.

Cranleigh 21

At mile 9, I was happily chugging along.
At mile 12, I stopped and walked. And didn’t want to get going again.
At mile 15, I stupidly decided to go for another lap of 6.
At mile 21, I was glad that I did.

Need more long runs.

Tiny successes

Today, I…

  • ran 5K despite nearly abandoning yesterday’s race due to trouble with hip flexors (albeit slower than usual)
  • finished my first full set of James Dunn’s #RunStrongChallenge (despite floundering all over in single leg balancing exercises)
  • completed 3 consecutive pull ups, one more than yesterday!

Tiny successes, that may in a few months lead to a big one :)
