It’s my favourite plant in the Onslow arboretum. Technical name is ‘Araucaria araucana (Molina) K.Koch’, but I really like the common name—Monkey Puzzle
According to Wikipedia, they are originally from lower slopes of Andes in Chile and Argentina. Interesting facts:
- Each leaf has an average lifespan of 24 years!
- They don’t start producing seeds till they are 30-40 years old!
- Once established, they are known to live for over 1000 years. Yes, one thousand years!
