In a booming sector/industry with a low barrier to entry, make money by not being in the sector, but by providing for the sector.
Don’t be a gold digger, rather sell shovels to them.
In a way, Uber and Airbnb were both selling shovels (‘find you a rider’, ‘find you a renter’) for existing sectors (minicabs, b&b) with a low barrier to entry.
Even within those platforms, there’s a better economic rationale for providing ancillary services to hundreds of Airbnb hosts in a city, than to be a host yourself.
[To be expanded, hopefully]
