I only knew Annie Besant in relation to her involvement with the Indian independence movement—she was once president of the Indian National Congress—and in founding the Benaras Hindu University. It was surprising to see her name on this poster. Further reading has taught me how wide and varied her interests and influence were. She was a wonder woman, long before they dreamed up Wonder Woman.
